MATERIAL MEMORIES

AN ELOQUENT FOLD COMMUNITY TEXTILE / BOOK PROJECT

THERE WILL BE 6 FREE CONSECTUTIVE EVENING SESSIONS Please make sure you book a ticket for each of the 6 sessions.

Inspired by our work with the participants during the Made in Corby / ARTICHOKE PROCESSIONS 2018 banner making sessions The Eloquent Fold, artists Carole Miles and Phiona Richards are back at Swan Gardens with a series of free, regular making sessions using stitch, print, threads, textiles and shared stories.

Our aim is to help participants create a fabric book inspired by the work of artist Louise Bourgeois. Each page could be abstract or figurative, bold or subtle, plain or fancy and could incorporate much loved garments and reclaimed fabrics or buttons. Fabrics cover us, surround us, delight and inspire us; they have the power to summon up memories of special times or places and are and excellent way of making thoughts and feelings tactile.

The group will take the following themes as their inspiration:-

• cherished memories,

• high days and holidays,

• friendship and family

• where our wardrobe may take us

• a place for participants to explore your own personal landscape

All basic materials (drinks and snacks) will be supplied but you will be encouraged to bring along your own stash to make it a more personal experience.

Over the course of 6 sessions Carole and Phiona will guide participants through simple techniques helping them design and construct their work. We recommend participants attending all 6 sessions to ensure their textile piece is completed.

PLEASE BOOK YOUR FREE TICKET (commitment to the full 6 weeks is appreciated as you will need this time to complete your book

There will be time for Healthy Snacks, a Cuppa and Conversation and the project will be the perfect opportunity for lively conversation, relaxation and intergenerational sharing.

At the end of the 6 week block there will be the opportunity to make a donate, however small, to enable future projects to take place.

This project has been made possible with support from The National Lottery players.
